At the Shepetyn Gymnasium in the village of Shepetyn, Dubno District, renovation works have been completed in the school shelter — a space that now serves as a refuge for local residents and internally displaced persons during air raid alerts.
An initiative group from the Shepetyn Gymnasium decided to restore the basement and transform it into a “Point of Invincibility.”
With their own resources, community members installed indoor toilets, carried out waterproofing, replaced plumbing, and began laying tiles. However, to complete the work, the initiative group needed additional funds. This motivated them to apply for a mini-grant competition implemented under the project “Integrated Humanitarian Response in Times of War and Postwar Recovery.”
After becoming one of the winning projects, the team was able to complete the renovation: the ceiling was finished with drywall, floor tiling was completed, walls were plastered, new entrance and interior doors were installed, and a children’s corner was arranged.
“As a result of the completed works, we now have a functioning Point of Invincibility — a high-quality shelter for students, internally displaced persons, and residents of the village. In the future, after the war ends, the gymnasium plans to use the premises as an assembly hall for school and extracurricular activities,”
— the initiative group representatives shared.
In Ukraine, the project “Integrated Humanitarian Response in Times of War and Postwar Recovery” is implemented by the International Charitable Foundation ‘Alliance for Public Health’ with the financial support of the Disasters Emergency Committee (UK) and the technical support of Christian Aid.
The project aims to support communities by meeting urgent humanitarian, social, and medical needs and ensuring a dignified life in times of crisis.
