Two washing machines with drying functions will now serve the internally displaced persons (IDPs) of the Oleksandriia community.
The project “Improving the Quality of Life of IDPs in the Oleksandriia Community,” implemented by the NGO “Rivne Local Development Agency,” won a mini-grant within the framework of the “Integrated Humanitarian Response in Times of War and Postwar Recovery” program.
According to the community’s initiative group, one of the most pressing needs for IDPs in rural areas is to have proper facilities for washing and drying clothes — especially during the winter period.
To address this issue, the NGO submitted a grant application within the program implemented by the Rivne Regional Charitable Foundation “Our Future” in the Rivne and Volyn regions. As a result of winning the mini-grant competition, two high-quality industrial washing machines were purchased and installed at the Oleksandriia Municipal Hospital (KNP “Oleksandriiska Likarnia”).
“The relevance of this project is also due to the fact that the hospital washes clothes not only for its inpatients and IDPs but also, since the beginning of the war, for all the military personnel stationed at the training ground near the village of Oleksandriia. Of course, the hospital already has some washing machines and dryers, but they are too few — and most of them are morally and physically outdated,”
— representatives of the NGO explained.
In Ukraine, the project “Integrated Humanitarian Response in Times of War and Postwar Recovery” is implemented by the International Charitable Foundation “Alliance for Public Health” with financial support from the Disasters Emergency Committee (UK) and technical support from Christian Aid.
The aim of the project is to support communities by addressing urgent humanitarian, social, and medical needs and ensuring dignified living conditions in times of crisis.
