The Success Story of a Family Doctor
44-year-old Nataliia (name changed) from Luhansk region now lives in Lutsk. Like all internally displaced persons, she is adapting to new conditions and trying to rebuild her life. However, for Nataliia, this process is complicated by the consequences of a car accident she was involved in several years ago.
“The patient came to me complaining about poor health. An improperly healed pelvis, one shortened leg, strabismus — this is far from the full list of complications after the accident,”
— says family doctor Liubov Kushniruk, who provides medical services within the project “Integrated Humanitarian Response in War and Post-War Recovery.”
During the consultation and examinations, it turned out that due to her injuries, the woman had previously been granted disability status, which was later revoked in 2021.
“Given her current health condition, she clearly meets the criteria for disability group III. This prompted us to initiate the process of restoring her disability status,”
— explains Dr. Kushniruk.
After all the required medical examinations and the official review by the Medical and Social Expert Commission (MSEC), her disability status was successfully reinstated!
“At present, the patient is following her prescribed treatment plan and shows a high level of motivation,”
— the family doctor concludes.
In Ukraine, the project “Integrated Humanitarian Response in War and Post-War Recovery” is implemented by the Alliance for Public Health with financial support from the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC, UK) and technical support from the Christian Aid charity organization.
The project’s goal is to support communities by addressing urgent humanitarian, social, and medical needs and helping people live with dignity in times of crisis.
