Implementation of the project within the mini-grant competition “Survivor and Community-Led Crisis Response (SCLR) in Ukraine” / “Supporting Community Initiatives” — Berezne: Water Must Be Safe!
Initiative Group: Council on IDP Issues under the Berezne City Council
Partner Organization: Berezne District Organization of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society (BROUCHU)
For over two years, Dormitory No. 3 of the Berezne Forestry Vocational College (NUWEE branch) has been serving as a temporary shelter for internally displaced persons (IDPs).
Currently, 114 people live here — most of them evacuated from the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions and from active combat zones.
Until recently, their daily reality was harsh: only technical water flowed from the taps, with excessive iron content, a reddish color, and an unpleasant smell. This water was unsafe to drink and even harmful for daily use, posing health risks to children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.
The goal of the project was to ensure permanent access to safe drinking water for all residents of the dormitory.
Within the initiative, the team purchased and installed:
Aqua Iron 1665 Plus iron removal system,
Pipes, fittings, mounts, and check valves.
This allowed the installation of clean water distribution points on each floor of the dormitory. The next step — final assembly and system launch.
Because water is not a luxury — it’s a basic need.
Now, 114 people in Berezne will finally have sustainable access to safe drinking water.
